Pushkar is a town located on the edge of the Thar Desert in the northeastern Indian state of Rajasthan. It sits on the banks of Pushkar Lake, a sacred Hindu site with 52 ghats (stone staircases) where pilgrims gather to bathe in its holy waters. The town is dotted with hundreds of temples, the most notable being the 14th-century Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, dedicated to Lord Brahma, the God of creation.

This temple is one of the very few in India devoted to Lord Brahma, making it a rare and spiritually significant site. Though the current structure dates back to the 14th century, Hindu mythology suggests that the origin of the temple goes back more than 2,000 years.

Located near the sacred Pushkar Lake, the Brahma Temple is a prominent attraction for both pilgrims and tourists. It draws especially large crowds during the auspicious occasion of Kartik Poornima. The temple is constructed entirely of marble and showcases elements of South Indian temple architecture. Built on a raised platform, its entrance—adorned with intricately pillared canopies—is accessed via a flight of marble steps. The red spire and silver coins embedded in its walls, left by pilgrims, add to its distinctive appearance.

If you want to experience deep devotion and the spiritual energy of Pushkar, the best time to visit is between October and November. During Kartik Poornima—the full moon night in the Hindu month of Kartik—a grand religious festival is held in honor of Lord Brahma. Thousands of devotees bathe in the holy waters of Pushkar Lake, seeking blessings and spiritual merit.

This sacred occasion also marks the beginning of the world-renowned Pushkar Camel Fair, transforming the quiet town into a vibrant celebration of culture, tradition, and spirituality.
