The Savitri Temple, Pushkar

Located atop Ratnagiri Hill, the Savitri Temple is a revered pilgrimage site in Pushkar, dedicated to Goddess Savitri, one of the consorts of Lord Brahma. Though the climb to the hilltop temple is steep and strenuous, it is believed that the effort expended brings spiritual merit or Tapas.

The temple houses the idols of both of Lord Brahma’s wives—Savitri and Gayatri. In accordance with tradition, Goddess Savitri is worshipped first, followed by prayers to Goddess Gayatri.

Visitors can either trek to the temple via a stairway of approximately 200 steps, or opt for a ropeway (cable car) ride that offers a scenic and enjoyable ascent. The ropeway provides sweeping views of Pushkar and the surrounding Aravalli ranges, making it a fun and memorable experience. However, many devotees still prefer to walk up the stairs, viewing it as an essential part of their pilgrimage. The climb typically takes about 15 minutes, though the steep incline may require a few short breaks along the way.

Be mindful of the monkeys along the trail—they can be aggressive, so it’s best to stay alert and avoid carrying food openly.

The Savitri Temple offers panoramic views of the entire Pushkar town and its surrounding valleys. Easily visible from Pushkar Lake, the temple is just a short walk—about 15 minutes—from the lake itself, making it one of the most accessible and rewarding viewpoints in the area.
